Poems by Charles Cros

Charles Cros

French author, born on 01/10/1842 at Fabrezan (France), deceased on 09/08/1888 at Paris (France).

Charles Cros, poet and inventor, described the principle of the phonograph in 1877, a few months before Edison. His collection "Le Coffret de santal" blends whimsy, tenderness, and humor, and his monologue "Le Hareng saur" has amused generations of schoolchildren. A friend of Verlaine and Rimbaud, he frequented the Zutistes and the Hydropathes.
