Thoinot Arbeau, an anagram of Jehan Tabourot, a canon of Langres, is the author of the "Orchésographie" (1589), a valuable treatise on Renaissance dance. In it he describes step by step the dances of his time, along with their tunes. The pavane "Belle qui tiens ma vie" is its most famous excerpt.
