Poems by Charles D’Orléans

Charles D'Orléans

French author, born on 24/11/1394 at Paris (France), deceased on 05/01/1465 at Amboise (France).

Charles d'Orléans, a prince and nephew of King Charles VI, was taken prisoner at Agincourt in 1415 and remained captive in England for twenty-five years. There he wrote ballades and songs, and later, back at Blois, rondeaux that became famous, such as "Le temps a laissé son manteau." Father of the future Louis XII, he gathered poets at his court in Blois, among them François Villon.
