Summer’s Harbingers Have Come

Poem by Charles D'Orléans Collection RondeauxPeriod 15th century

Summer’s harbingers have come
To make ready his lodging,
And they have spread his carpets,
Woven of flowers and greenery.

Spreading carpets shaggy
With green grass throughout the land,
Summer’s harbingers have come
To make ready his lodging.

Hearts long numb with sorrow,
Thank God, are now healthy and gay;
Be off with you, take your leave,
Winter, you no longer stay;
Summer’s harbingers have come.
