Love’s Quartermasters Have Lodged Me

Poem by Charles D'Orléans Collection SongsPeriod 15th century

Love’s quartermasters have lodged me
In a place wholly to my pleasure,
For which I give thanks to my power,
And I hold myself obliged to them.

So that soon may be shortened
The ill that bears me grievance,
Love’s quartermasters have lodged me
In a place wholly to my pleasure.

Already I feel myself eased,
For Hope has made acquaintance with me,
And I believe there is no lover in France
Who is better lodged than I.
Love’s quartermasters have lodged me.
