Oh, How You Are Aging!

Poem by Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly Collection PoussièresPeriod 19th century

Oh, how you are aging! Yet none the less fair;
Your brow to the weight of the years refuses to bend.
The rose of your lip is perhaps eternal,
Since neither tears nor kisses, nothing could wither it!
Oh, how you are aging! I find you entirely,
As in times past — after two years of love reaped!
But over this heart that is yours, your heart shivers and doubts…
Poor child, how you are aging!
