I Would Gladly, Richly Yellowing

Poem by Pierre De Ronsard Collection First Book of LovesThemes LovePeriod 16th century

I would gladly, richly yellowing,
Descend in a shower of gold drop by drop
Into the fair breast of my beautiful Cassandre,
When sleep goes gliding into her eyes.

I would gladly, as a whitening bull,
Transform myself to subtly take her,
When in April through the tenderest grass
She goes, a flower, ravishing a thousand flowers.

I would gladly lighten my pain,
Be a Narcissus, and she a fountain,
To plunge into it for a night’s stay;

And I would gladly have that night still
Last forever, without Dawn ever
Rekindling the day to wake me.
