Sky, Air, and Winds, Plains and Open Mountains

Poem by Pierre De Ronsard Collection First Book of LovesThemes LovePeriod 16th century

Sky, air and winds, plains and open mountains,
Viney mounds and verdant forests,
Winding shores and rippling springs,
Shorn groves and you green groves,

Mossy caves half-open brows,
Meadows, buds, flowers and russet grasses,
Hunchbacked valleys and blond-shimmering beaches,
And you rocks, the hosts of my verses,

Since on departing, gnawed by care and ire,
To that fair eye I could not say Farewell,
Which near and far holds me in turmoil,

I beseech you, Sky, air, winds, mountains and plains,
Groves, forests, shores and fountains,
Caves, meadows, flowers, tell it to her for me.
