For His Tomb

Poem by Pierre De Ronsard Collection Last Verses (Ronsard)Period 16th century

Ronsard lies here, who boldly from childhood
Turned the Muses from Helicon to France,
Following the sound of the lute and the arrows of Apollo:
But little availed his Muse against the sting
Of death, which cruelly encloses him in this tomb.
His soul be to God, his body to the earth.
