Before Your Time Your Temples Will Bloom

Poem by Pierre De Ronsard Collection First Book of LovesThemes LovePeriod 16th century

Before your time your temples will bloom,
Your end will be bounded by few days,
Before evening your day will close,
Betrayed by hope your thoughts will perish:

Without my bending your writings will wither,
Into your disaster my destiny will go,
Your death will be the end of loving me,
Your sighs will make our descendants laugh.

You will be made the talk of the common crowd:
You will build upon the uncertainty of sand,
And in vain you will paint in the skies:

So spoke the Nymph who drives me mad,
When the sky, witness to her word,
With a lightning flash from the right was an omen to my eyes.
