Sunset

Poem by Gérard De Nerval Period 19th century

When the evening Sun sweeps across the Tuileries
And sets the château’s windows ablaze,
I walk the Grande Allée and its two pools
Wholly plunged in my reveries!

And from there, my friends, it is a very fine sight
To see, when night spreads its veil all around,
The sunset, — a rich and shifting tableau,
Framed within the arch of the Étoile!
