Shell-Shocked Moon-Colored – As Well as the Cicadas

Poem by Guillaume Apollinaire Collection CalligrammesThemes WarPeriod 20th century

People of the Midi people of the midi so you have not
looked at the cicadas that you do not know how to burrow that
you do not know how to light yourselves nor to see What then
is lacking in you to see as well as the cicadas
But you still know how to drink like the cicadas o people
of the Midi people of the sun people who ought to know how to burrow and
see as well at the very least as well as the cicadas
What then! you know how to drink and no longer know how to piss
usefully like the cicadas the day of glory will be the one
when you know how to burrow to come out well into the sun
burrow see drink piss like the cicadas people of the
Midi you must burrow see drink piss as well as the
cicadas to sing like them
THE ADORABLE JOY OF SOLAR PEACE
