Paul Arène, a Provençal writer born in Sisteron, wrote in both French and Provençal and took part in the Félibrige alongside Mistral. His novel "Jean-des-Figues" humorously recounts a Provençal youth who goes up to Paris. A friend of Alphonse Daudet, he is said to have helped write "Letters from My Windmill."
