The Shade of the Trellis

Poem by Eustorg De Beaulieu Period 16th century

There is nothing like the shade of the trellis
To refresh oneself pleasantly,
And there is no shade like it,
Nor any that stays more cool,
And it is also greatly healthful.
Then trunks, branches, fruits, and the leaf
(Provided they are gathered in their season),
All are helpful to man,
And (what is a greater marvel)
Their liquor is very profitable.
