XLIII
In summer, when the day has fled, covered with flowers
The plain pours out afar an intoxicating perfume;
With eyes closed, ear half open to the murmurs,
One sleeps only halfway in a transparent sleep.
The stars are purer, the shadow seems better;
A vague half-light tints the eternal dome;
And the soft pale dawn, awaiting its hour,
Seems to wander all night at the bottom of the sky.
