Clair de Lune

Poem by Guillaume Apollinaire Collection AlcoolsThemes NaturePeriod 20th century

Moon mellifluous on the lips of madmen
The orchards and the villages tonight are greedy
The stars quite well resemble the bees
Of that luminous honey dripping from the trellises
For behold so gently and falling to them from the sky
Each moonbeam is a ray of honey
Now hidden I conceive the very sweet adventure
I fear the fiery sting of that bee Arcturus
That placed in my hands deceiving rays
And took its lunar honey from the wind rose
